Glucagon for Injection: Supply Update

Since Canadian-marketed glucagon products were discontinued in 2023, Health Canada has allowed Amphastar Pharmaceuticals Inc. to import US-authorized glucagon for injection. Health Canada has advised the Ontario Poison Centre of two important regulatory updates about the continued supply of injectable glucagon:

1. Extended importation period: The exceptional importation of the US product has been extended from July 1, 2026, to December 31, 2026.
2. New product authorized: On June 10, 2026, Health Canada authorized Lupin Pharma Canada Limited's glucagon for injection product. The official Canadian launch date is still pending and may occur in early 2027.

Although glucagon for injection is rarely used as adjunctive therapy for beta blocker toxicity, there are circumstances when it may be considered. Contact the Ontario Poison Centre for guidance on use 1-800-268-9017.
